A grey dawn emerges

A grey dawn emerges

From the icy obscurity

Of a seemingly interminable night:

Delicate pink hues not strong enough

To breach the dreary hold of winter;

Holding every promise of spring

Beyond failing sight.

Yet, on some as yet unseen horizon

A small star

Pierces the darkness

Heralding the genesis of hope.
